A passion for people

Laurie Baldwin helps community members find their dream home

Helping people has always been a passion for Laurie Baldwin, from her early employment as a Medical Technologist to her current profession as a Realtor. “ The Real Estate business is very different from hospital work, but it still gives me the opportunity to help others,” she says, “As a Realtor, I am constantly working with gathering information, finding answers, and ultimately changing people’s lives.”

Baldwin grew up in Southern California and attended Pepperdine University, where she met her husband, Larry, who grew up in Lompoc. They attended graduate school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she studied Medical Technology and he attended Medical School. Following their time in school, they decided to come home to the Central Coast and settled in San Luis Obispo. Ten years later, in 1999, the Baldwins and their two children, Haley and Bryan, moved to Templeton when Larry opened a second office of his Ophthalmology practice, San Luis Obispo Eye Associates.

Baldwin was encouraged to become a Realtor by her dear friend, Richard Summers, who had helped the Baldwins find their home in Templeton. She took his advice, and received her Real Estate license in 2000. She now works at RE/MAX Parkside in Paso Robles “with the most awesome people around – we are family,” she says.

Baldwin works with a broad spectrum of clients, from local residents and out-of-town buyers, to first-time homeowners with young families. “I love working with families,” she says, “I have the patience necessary to spend the extra time that is needed when showing homes to this group. I never mind when children are a part of the package; in fact, I love it!”

“Being a Realtor requires you to know everything possible about the community that you live and work in. In addition to knowing the housing market, you must also be knowledgeable about the schools, community services, local government, long-term planning, and demographics,” she says. “We moved to Templeton because we liked the slower pace, the award-winning schools, and the local wine culture.”

Baldwin loves sharing her love of the Central Coast and finding “that perfect home” for her clients.

Since moving to Templeton, Baldwin has become a very active member of the community. She has been a Templeton Chamber Ambassador since 2008 and she helped charter the Templeton Rotary Club in 2001. She is also an active member of The First Baptist Church of Paso Robles, where she helps with a children’s outreach program called Team Kid.

Since they were first married, winemaking has been a passion for the Baldwins. They were able to plant an acre of wine grapes (viognier, syrah, and grenache) on their Templeton property, and today, thirteen years later, they have two wine labels: Baldwin Cellars, their homemade label, and Templeton Wine Company, their commercial label.

“Templeton is a well-kept secret,” Baldwin says, “We have a small-town atmosphere with friendly people, no traffic, excellent schools, and old- fashioned values. The beach is 20 minutes away, and we enjoy more sunny days per year than just about anywhere else. The wineries are incredible. We live where other people vacation, need I say more?”
